2024 Paper
-
The 2024 works on paper continue Carter’s ongoing exploration of abstraction through different surfaces and atmospheres. Some pieces take advantage of Yupo’s luminous quality, allowing paint to float lightly across the slick surface. Titles such as Summer Camp in Atlantis hint at underwater spaces and shifting light, encouraging the viewer to imagine environments suggested by color and movement.
Other works return to traditional paper, where Carter’s gestures feel more grounded and direct. Across the series, the works retain the quick, intuitive gestures that define Carter’s practice. Whether light and atmospheric or bold against darker ground, they continue her exploration of how color, motion, and composition can create both immediacy and depth within a single moment of painting.
