ABOUT

Born in Houston and shaped by 25 years living and working in the San Francisco Bay Area, Carter’s practice is intuitive and process-driven, rooted in the subconscious and psychic state. Each painting acts as a form of channeling, where layered gestures and color translate internal experiences into form. Built through accumulative layers, her compositions balance chaos and order while reflecting cycles of transformation, renewal, and interconnectedness. Influenced by the landscapes of Houston and East Texas, recurring circular and spiral forms suggest continual return and evolution across her work.

Carter studied at the San Francisco Art Institute in the early 1990s, receiving her BFA in 1994. Carter’s paintings have been exhibited at de boer, Los Angeles, CA, & Antwerp, Belgium; Edward Cella Art and Architecture, Los Angeles, CA; NLFA, Houston TX; di Rosa Center for Contemporary Art, Napa, CA; Octavia Art Gallery, Houston, TX and New Orleans, LA; Graystone Gallery, San Francisco, CA; the Monterey Museum of Art La Miranda, Monterey, CA; Aureus Contemporary, USA; and Octavia Gallery, Bath, United Kingdom. Carter’s work is held in significant public, corporate, and private collections, including the di Rosa Center for Contemporary Art; Black Stone Minerals Company, Houston, TX; and Memorial Sloan Kettering Cancer Center, Commack Expansion, Commack, NY, among many others.
