Grounded 60 (Zoom)

2015

  • Grounded 60 Zoom steps inside the larger world of Grounded 60 and slows the gaze. These works focus on fragments, small sections of the previous series that felt charged, beautiful, or unresolved.

The “zoom” is both emotional and aesthetic. Some works narrow in on personal experience, focusing on specific textures or moments drawn from the larger narrative of childhood in the 1960s. Others are driven purely by instinct: by a desire to linger with a color relationship, a form, or a compositional moment that Carter wanted to expand upon. These paintings hold that tension between meaning and beauty. They don’t explain the past so much as pause inside it—isolating pieces of memory and sensation, and letting them exist on their own terms.
