Grid

2005

  • The Grid series brings a more structural language into Carter’s intuitive process. The grid becomes a quiet framework for the layered nature of being human, and how experience, choice, relationship, memory, and consciousness all stack and overlap across a life.

The paintings can be experienced simply as visual objects—elegant, rhythmic, resolved. But there’s also a deeper pulse underneath: a sense of how complex it is to move through a life, even when things appear orderly on the surface. The grid becomes less about control and more about holding everything at once: structure and chaos, clarity and complexity.
