Sara Carter: Conversations On Beauty

October 21 – November 6, 2025

Curated by Jenny Laird and Amy Sawtelle

Lonestar Lighthouse | Austin

Sara Carter: Conversations on Beauty brings together recent works by Austin-based abstract painter Sara Carter in an immersive presentation at East Austin’s Lone Star Light House. The exhibition grew out of an ongoing dialogue and studio visits between Carter and longtime friends and collectors Jenny Laird and Amy Sawtelle, evolving into an invitation for viewers to step inside the emotional and energetic world Carter creates through paint.

Carter’s paintings function as quiet acts of divination—layered, intuitive compositions that offer moments of contemplation and solace through beauty. Rooted in subconscious gesture and color, the works on view reflect her ongoing exploration of inner states, sensation, and transformation.

In addition to the exhibition, the space will host a series of gatherings that extend the experience beyond the canvas, including an opening reception, an artist-led gallery talk, and a selection of private, invitation-only events. These moments—ranging from movement and sound-based performances to intimate communal experiences—are designed to engage Austin’s creative community and echo the rhythms and energies present in Carter’s work.

Sara Carter: Conversations on Beauty is on view from October 21 through November 6 at Lone Star Light House, 701 Tillery Street, Unit 10A, East Austin. The exhibition is free and open to the public Thursdays through Saturdays, 11am–4pm, and by appointment during the week.

Sara Carter was born and raised in Houston and East Texas, lived and worked in the San Francisco Bay Area for 25 years, and is now based in Austin, Texas. She received her BFA from the San Francisco Art Institute in 1994. Her work has been exhibited at institutions including the Monterey Museum of Art, the di Rosa Center for Contemporary Art, and Kunsthalle Recklinghausen, Germany, and in solo exhibitions at de boer and Edward Cella Art + Architecture in Los Angeles. Carter’s paintings have appeared at art fairs such as Untitled (Houston), Scope Basel, and Art Southampton, and are held in public and private collections including Memorial Sloan Kettering and the di Rosa Foundation.
